Diu part 1-Shrines and Vanakbara

Diu is a small island off the southern coast of Gujarat. The main town is on the eastern side, with smaller villages and beaches all around the island. Below are pictures of shrines made for men who died at sea and a visit to Vanakbara, a fishing village on the far western side of the island. Ganesh

Girnar Hill

Outside of Junagadh, Girnar Hill's 10,000 steps are climbed by Hindu and Jain pilgrims for the magnificent temples at the top. The surrounding forests are supposedly also home to Asiatic Lions. Dan and I ended up helping to carry down an older woman whose legs couldn't take it any more (picture below). Playing monkeys

Kutch part 4, Than

Than is a monestary sitting below a hill with a temple close to the border with Pakistan. There is only one monk currently living there. We got there after dark and worked our way through a crowd of cows and slept in the room for pilgrims. The next day we walked up the hill to the temple there. On top of the hill my camera broke, so no more pictures until after Ahmedebad. View from the guest room
